A hard sell is one you might find in a car commercial. The talent tends to read with a louder tone with a lot of excitement and tends to speak very quickly. This style of voice over is great if you want to illicit a quick response to your message. It also works great to get your viewers excited.
You’d find a soft sell voice-over most likely in a jewelry or beauty product ad. This voice-over style relies on a more slow-paced and quieter read. This style is often used to make to viewer feel more comfortable and peaceful.
A straight sell is a read that come somewhere in the middle. Typically done with excitement but with a laid back undertone. These voice-overs work in most situations because they appeal to a number of different senses. Once you decide on your style you need to decide on using a female or male voice. There are a number of things to consider here. The biggest one is which style will appeal to a majority of your customers, which will your customers relate to the best, and which will best represent your business.
There are 2 advantages to having a voice-over instead of and on screen talent. They include price and feel of the video. It is more budget conscience to have a voice-over instead of on-screen talent. You do not need anyone to come in and be in front of a camera. The voice-over is someone either you as the client want, or we can hire a professional actor. As for feel of the video, some messages are better with a voice-over, rather than on screen talent. Sometimes on screen talent is unnecessary. If you think of a documentary project, you need a voice-over for narration to give a nice feel and flow for the video or commercial.
